The D&D Driver Difference, Part 2: Benefits

Truck drivers: how much do you love your job? Are you receiving the technology, benefits, and support you deserve? At D&D Transportation, we know that if our drivers aren’t happy, we have work to do.

In our last blog post, we discussed how trucking companies can and should be using technology to benefit their drivers. (View the post in its entirety here.) Today, we’re discussing the importance of benefits.

A 2012 Monster Insights survey revealed that the three most crucial workplace benefits are healthcare, vacation time, and pay raises. These and other areas are our focus in Part 2 of our D&D Driver Difference Series.

Here are several of the benefits we offer our truck drivers:

  • Healthcare. Our drivers receive health insurance plans that include medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage. We also offer AFLAC and cafeteria plans.
  • Vacation and home time. How many long-haul truckers do you know who receive time off for Christmas? D&D is proud to be one of the few in our industry to give our drivers paid leave during the December holiday so they can spend it with the people who matter most—their families. Not to mention, we make sure our truck drivers are able to be home regularly.
  • Top compensation. We have a great pay package, which includes an attractive referral program, expense-paid orientation, per diem pay, stop pay, layover pay. Also offered: weekly pay, weekly advances, direct deposit, and 401(k)s.
  • Creature comforts. Our state-of-the-art trucks are equipped with large sleepers and refrigerators for maximum comfort. Drivers also have 24-hour access to our Driver Lounge, which means free laundry and showers.

After nearly 40 years in the transportation industry, we have worked hard to provide a comprehensive benefits package for our drivers, and we believe this model can (and should) be used as companies grow. Not only that, we believe that providing top benefits to our drivers isn’t just a matter of good will or employee retention; it’s the right thing to do.

Editor’s note: This post marks the second in a series of three that discusses benefits to D&D drivers. Stay tuned for our next post in this series, The D&D Driver Difference, Part 3: SUPPORT.
